A Moment of Joy and Emotion
“This job is not for the future; it's for now” - Richard Wright.
Impossible to forget the subtlety, originality and beauty of that mural painted at the Tate Britain in London. Nor was the detachment of the artist who created it, because those beautiful sheets of gold leaf were painted white as soon as the exhibition was over.
The English artist Richard Wright, winner of the 2009 Turner Prize, the most important prize awarded in the UK, was the author of this piece that only existed for a few weeks.
Ephemeral art is art that only lasts for a short amount of time (performances, happenings, and installations are examples of it). This artistic manifestation inspired us to create this chocolate expression with dried flowers.
We combine the eternal, the fragile, and the temporary. The eternal embodied in the chocolate from that estate harvesting Nacional cacao since 1870 in Manabí, Ecuador. The infinite is a wish to immortalise my mother's memory by curating a chocolate bar. The fragility of those Andean flowers aiming to last.
Can we call the result, art? Yes, without hesitation.
Once, a chef told me, "gastronomy is the most ephemeral art that exists," as well as cacao, and chocolate curating.
I refuse to lift and wash this beautiful dish that decorates my dining table. The unforgivable heat of 34 degrees and 80 per cent humidity on the Ecuadorian coast will likely damage this vintage 2021 chocolate bar and force me to throw it away. Meanwhile, I enjoy it today because some feelings and circumstances are not meant to last.
This is a collaboration with floral artist Juan Cortés from Lavanda Natura, Ecuador.
